The Onconova Approach
The capabilities of Onconova span drug discovery and early development, from medicinal chemistry and molecular biology to Phase III clinical trials. The Onconova platform technology and products are derived from the work of our scientific founder, Dr. E. P. Reddy, a world-renowned scientist in molecular oncology and Professor and Director, Department of Oncological Sciences, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. We employ state-of-the-art chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and genomics to design and evaluate small molecules to target cancer and protect healthy cells.
The Onconova drug candidates are based upon a library of novel chemotypes, used to identify small molecule inhibitors of designated molecular and cellular targets. This platform resource is the creation of a team of medicinal chemists under the guidance of Dr. M. V. Ramana Reddy. The library currently includes more than 140 structural scaffolds, with several thousand unique, patentable structures. Inhibitors targeting kinases by a non-ATP competitive mechanism have been derived from this library and are part of the Company's growing clinical and pre-clinical pipeline of product candidates.
We are leveraging our in-house resources through several productive academic collaborations, government funding, and outsourcing of development services.
