Onconova's capabilities span drug discovery and early development, from medicinal chemistry and molecular biology to Phase II clinical trials. The Company's platform technology and products are derived from the work of our founder, Dr. E. P. Reddy, a world-renowned scientist in molecular oncology and Director of the Fels Institute for Cancer Research & Molecular Biology at Temple University. We employ state-of-the-art chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and genomics to design and evaluate small molecules to target cancer and protect healthy cells.
The basis for Onconova's drug candidates is our library of novel chemotypes, used to identify small molecule inhibitors of designated molecular and cellular targets. This platform resource is the creation of a team of medicinal chemists under the guidance of Dr. M. V. Ramana Reddy. The library currently includes more than 125 structural scaffolds, with several thousand unique, patentable structures. Inhibitors targeting kinases by a non-ATP competitive mechanism have been derived from this library and are part of the Company's growing clinical and pre-clinical pipeline of product candidates.
