Dr. Hilary Koprowski is currently Director of the Biotechnology Foundation Laboratories, and Professor of Cancer Biology, at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Dr. Koprowski produced the first oral polio vaccine. Dr. Koprowski has developed several vaccines and therapeutic antibodies. He has contributed to the successful eradication of diseases in several countries. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and one of the original founders of the biotechnology company, Centocor.
ANNA MARIE SKALKA, Ph.D.
Fox Chase Cancer Center
Dr. Anna Marie Skalka is Director of the Institute for Cancer Research and Senior Vice President, Basic Science at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. She is a leading expert in the molecular biology of retroviruses and the molecular basis of cancer. In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Skalka as been elected as Fellow, to the American Academy of Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Science, and the New York Academy of Science.
GEORGE F. VANDE WOUDE, Ph.D.
Van Andel Research Institute
Dr. George F. Vande Woude, Rutgers University served as research virologist for the US Department of Agriculture at Plum Island Animal Disease Center prior to beginning his outstanding work at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) where he served successively as Head of the Human Tumor Studies and Virus Tumor Biochemistry Sections, Chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, and Director of the Advanced Bioscience Laboratories-Basic Research Program. He was Special Advisor to the Director of NCI and served to reorganize the intramural basic science at NCI. In 1999, he was selected to be the first Director of the newly created Van Andel Research Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Vande Woude is the recipient of many awards honoring his contributions, is author of over 250 scientific research articles and over 60 articles in books or monographs, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
PETER K. VOGT, Ph.D.
Scripps Institute
Dr. Peter K. Vogt is at the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, CA. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a winner of the Bristol-Myers Prize in Cancer Reseach and of the General Motors Prize in Cancer Research. His fundamental studies on oncogenic avian retroviruses led to the identification of the first oncogene, src. Dr. Vogt is editor of numerous scientific books and journals.
